i found myself being relaxed.
and suddenly i forgot all my worries,
and how much the whole day, i had remained taxed.
i moved my aging hands,
through his furry coat.
feeling the softness on my tired fingers,
i realised, he was the only one, upon whom i could dote.
"JOSH" i used to call him,
he was my best friend.
staunch is how we know they are,
atleast that has been the trend.
.................................................
she knew how strong our bond was,
and that my love would never be the same, for "her"
and she also knew, of saving her, pity was the cause, otherwise she would have been torn by the furr.
often she would look into my eyes,
as if conveying that she cared.
but i failed to notice everytime she tried,
as her eyes always glared.
i believed she was sly,
and that one fine day she would be gone.
at a distance from me she would lie,
with a collar in her neck, on which was engraved "SEAN".
.......................................................
then one day, my life took a turn.
zero penny jingled in my pocket.
i could hear our empty stomachs churn,
i wished for this day, i hadn't sold my gold locket.
hunger took hold of us.
unable to feed us, my head would growl.
where sean made no fuss,
josh couldn't help but scowl.
our situation never seemed to mellow down.
we didnt get neither loans nor alms.
all i could do was frown,
looking at those lines on my palms.
as days died, josh went ballistic,
unable to bear the circumstances.
after a few digs into my flesh,
he left with no last glances.
thats when sean emerged out of the bolthole,
where she hid, fearing she would be josh's meal.
with soft steps she approached toward me,
and licked my wound, thinking that it would heal.
that was the moment i realised, life isnt as predictable as it seems.
it tricks us, plays us..
sometimes is stranger than our dreams.
sly became my dog,
and left me on my last day.
staunch my cat turned out to be,
dying there, together we both lay...
